NZ chief executive Christopher Luxon says the multi-purpose 787-9 aircraft represents a significant growth opportunity for the carrier and opens up the prospect of expanding its Pacific Rim footprint . Another key feature of the aircraft is the addition of 16 rows of Skycouch seats to the 787-9s which will see the unique seats offered on NZ s Asian routes for the first time. Luxon says the carriers has undertaken a lot of research to come up with four distinct seating options designed to meet customer expectations across the markets the 787 will serve. NZ s new 787-9s will be configured with a Business Premier cabin and new Premium Economy seats with a 41 pitch a 5 wide arm rest and a leg rest and extendable foot support. Back in economy there s the 16 rows of Skycouch seats as well as a customised version of the standard 787 seats featuring a slim line seat back to enhance the feeling of space sculpted upholstering and a more flexible headrest . Luxon says the addition of the 787s to NZ s fleet means the airline will be able to offer a consistent product experience across its long-haul fleet. The first 787-9 is set to roll off the production line at Boeing in Seattle next month and due to join the NZ fleet mid-2014. NZ Skycouch Solution PRIVATE TOUR Beijing On A Plate Air New Zealand is reviewing its options of how best to distribute its Skycouch product through the GDSs as the carrier announces there will be 16 rows of Skycouches on its new 787-9 aircraft. We re engaging with the trade to work through what those options would look like says Nick Judd NZ s general manager government corporate and distribution sales. The Skycouch is a unique and very important product for us and our ultimate aim is to make it as easy and simple to sell through the trade as it is for other channels. Judd says the trade distribution still accounts for a significant proportion of the carrier s long-haul sales and that NZ is eager to find a Skycouch solution for travel agents. The trade is still very important particularly on long-haul routes and in order to make sure we re firing on all cylinders in terms of sales we absolutely need a solution--as well as the trade s support to sell the expanded Skycouch offering. Travel Today understands the carrier will be consulting with its trade partners on the matter moving forward. Music To Fly To Music streaming service Spotify has compiled a list of songs it says are perfect to calm the nerves of frazzled flyers with a little help from an anxiety psychologist in London. The psychologist has found that breathing in time to music with a low bpm lowers heart rate blood pressure and anxiety and apparently Adele s Someone Like You is very close to the optimum 60 bpm. Other songs on the Calming Music to Fly to playlist include Pure Shores by All Saints the Chilli s Scar Tissue and David Bowie s Space Oddity. Our core Australian New Zealand accommodation business has maintained some momentum with an expected small topline TTV growth despite a lacklustre domestic retail environment says Wotif Group chief executive Scott Blume who adds that its focus on Asia and content strategies are targeting initiatives to get its Asia business growing again. Wotif now expects profit after tax for the financial year ending 31 Jun to be AUD50.5-51.5 million down from AUD58 million in FY12. The group s board has endorsed a strategic review completed by Blume and initiatives will be progressively implemented into the business says a market update. The US Federal Aviation Administration is reportedly set to ease restrictions on in-flight use of electronic devices but has delayed a recommendation until Sep to complete a safety assessment. Triptelligent is the brainchild of former US cruise executive Rinat Glinert and German consultant Joern Steinbeck and offers small operators of shore excursions a one-stop selling platform--and agents the opportunity to earn money from selling these trips to their clients. Agents refer their clients to the website and the agent remains the owner of the relationship once their client has booked excursions. The tours are on average 30% cheaper than those available for booking onboard cruise ships. We know that travel agents time is valuable--and we offer them a way to provide personalised service to their clients without all the back and forth investigation that they have to do today says Glinert. Consultants have seen their market share decline across a range of products in recent years however agents can still show their worth to clients by matching them to the right cruise product and offering a personalised service with a tech-touch she adds. Travel agents are important sales partners for Triptelligent. They know that they can strengthen their client relationships by saving them money and providing personalised options. Glimert says it s a known contradiction in the industry that cruise guests sail with 5000 other people on a ship but want to have an individual experience on shore and the small operators have been without a central channel for those visitors to book those excursions--until Triptelligent. Triptelligent bridges the desire of cruise guests to choose from many individual affordable experiences and to provide these options in a professional and trusted environment she says.
