There were many new buyers this year especially from China and we are seeing potential and demand from this emerging MICE market. In anticipation of the growth IT&CM China moved to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC) in 2012. There were 25% more exhibiting companies in 2012 growing from 253 last year to 31 this year. 7 The 2012 exhibition occupied 7 100 sqm of space and there were 67 booths compared to 52 last year. 3 IT&CM China 2013 2013 () Wider Media Coverage on IT&CM China Journalists from far-flung countries such as Jordan Slovenia and South Africa were represented as well as those from Hong Kong Japan Switzerland and the US who were covering the event for the first time. A total of 72 journalists with 60% representing international media companies and the rest local were at IT&CM China 2012. To accommodate requests from exhibitors and buyers for one-on-one interviews with the media IT&CM China introduced a DelegatesMeet-Media system and pigeonhole storage for messages at the Global Media Zone. This will be available again in 2013. Top among the media feedback items was the provision of free Wi-Fi at the exhibition. Others suggestions included more vegetarian options and more targeted press releases and information. These are some of the media s comments. In my opinion the B2B section and the organisation was quite good. It was an excellent experience participating in IT&CM China 2012. I would like more informative material from the exhibitors and not just brochures. Except for the nightmare of finding vegetarian food everything was fine. The event was excellent and I saw a lot of improvement compared to 201 There were 1. more participants the exhibition venue was good and the nice layout was perfect. Overall everything was very well organised and was better compared to last year. But for people coming to Shanghai for the first time there should be more contact with the real Shanghai in the pre-show tour take delegates to the Bund let them see Nanjing Road or the French Quarter.It s important to give delegates the right vibe of the city they are in. The media centre can be improved and the information in the show directory needs to be more precise and include booth numbers and an easy-to-follow map to locate the exhibitors. 72 60% 2013 Wi-Fi B2B Support from Four Official Hotels To cope with the expansion of IT&CM China and its move from the ShanghaiMart Expo in Puxi to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in 2012 four of the city s leading hotels in Pudong provided accommodation for the international and non-Shanghai resident delegates among the record 1 302 from 45 countries and territories who pre-registered for the event. I found exhibitors with new facilities to increase our business to new destinations. It was an excellent opportunity to renew old contacts find new suppliers and discover what Shanghai has to offer. I was very very satisfied because I know more about the city the country the region. I have many new ideas for planning my next groups to Asia. Our business both corporate and MICEfocused is growing fast in Asia. I met really important suppliers and I m very impressed with the organisation. It s a good move to hold the event at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in Pudong. It was my first visit to Shanghai and I am impressed by the number of first-class hotels and good infrastructure for getting around the city. Hotels are good value for money. Exhibitor quality was very good and I found new contacts for future business in China. The new venue has given a great new look to the show and its layout. Wi-Fi Buyers said there was room to improve their comfort level ranging from the airport shuttles to the exhibition layout to hosted meals. On the business front they wanted more interesting pre-show tours clearer instructions on the Sellers-Meet-Buyers Session better signage and less rigid security at the venue availability of free Wi-Fi at the exhibition and in their hotels and support staff with better English proficiency. But overall there was a high level of satisfaction and here is sampling of their individual comments. I discovered new products and services and learnt new ways to quantify the real value of conferences. The IT&CM China phone app was great for checking my appointments. Well done on this innovation. I met a lot of new quality contacts and interesting partners. The hosted lunches and dinners were brilliant and exposed the destination in an interesting way. MICE clients The DHL Global Conference in September 201 had 400 1 international and local delegates and the hotel organised a special Chinese-themed dinner and cocktail outside catering event at a temple. Mr. Sirk said China must have a strategic understanding that tourism is sometimes not tourism and there was a need to create political academic and business linkages. SWEECC PAE The facilities of the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC) were conducive so did the innovations implemented for the education portion of IT&CM China 2012. The event s organisers worked with ZX Meeting Translation Services to provide simultaneous English and Chinese translation at the Keynote Address and Seminars which resulted in better interaction between the speakers and the audience. Bilingual English Chinese online marketing communications to publicise the various education components was stepped up and it paid off. GBTA will announce the details of the Global Travel Professional certification by 2013. By attending the Fundamentals course and getting certified participants in China will be able to take the next steps to attain global travel professional certification he added.
