It was a wonderful course where I gained much confidence. The Cork College of Commerce opened up new paths and the experience was invaluable. Teachers and Course Directors were so helpful and ensured you felt relaxed at all times. This help made assignments less stressful than they would otherwise have been. I did work experience with McGuire O Halloran Solicitors and I now work as a full-time receptionist with this firm. Overall I would say that the Cork College of Commerce was a wonderful College gave opportunities and has given me a feeling of confidence about my future. Lesley A Roberts Medical and Dental Receptionist I have very fond memories of my time in the Cork College of Commerce. I met some fantastic and very supportive lecturers. Attending the College of Commerce taught me to be organised. It helped me to have the discipline to study and to hand assignments in on time. I have learned skills practical and otherwise that I will carry through with me for the rest of my career. I found myself going back to education after 10 years it was daunting but helped me grow and showed me how enjoyable college life can be. I got a full-time job in the dental practice where I did my work experience and am now continuing my education in UCC. I will forever remember my time in the Cork College of Commerce. Siobhan O Neill Medical and Dental Receptionist I had a very positive memorable experience during my year in the College of Commerce. I made some great friends. Exams were challenging but with study and dedication they were achievable and very rewarding. The course helped greatly in building my confidence especially when dealing with customers and using computer skills. Before I started the Medical and Dental Receptionist course I had no relevant experience and in one year the amount I learned was priceless. All the lecturers were very helpful they could not have done more and even now are still a great support. I made fantastic friends who I still meet up with and it is great since many of them are now working in similar jobs. I was confident and ready for work after my year of study. I did my work experience in Cork University Hospital and was offered a full-time job which I am still loving. Karen O Sullivan Legal Administration I started the Cork College of Commerce as a mature student when my daughter turned 16 years of age I felt then I might give the college experience a try because then I had time. I didn t write a sentence really in years never mind do an assignment. I was terrified of starting my course but as soon as I did I enjoyed it more and more and I owe all of that to the teachers and staff in the College. They gave me the confidence to carry on and I felt I could achieve anything by the time my two years were over. I was very sad to leave but they at my age prepared me for getting back out there into the working world and that I was. I started full time employment in a Solicitors Office something I would never had said possible if I didn t take that first step. I am so very grateful to my teachers and all involved in the College. Thank you. Breda Barry Medical and Dental Receptionist Last year I did QQI Level 5 Certificate in Office Administration Medical and Dental Receptionist. I returned to college as a mature student after many years out of the classroom environment. I found the College of Commerce most welcoming and the teachers so helpful and encouraging. I gained confidence in myself as a person and found the whole experience helped me in my future career. I have now started to work in the Cork college of Commerce as a Personal Assistant and am enjoying the experience. I would highly recommend the College to any mature person looking to return to education. Sarah Ryan Essential IT for the Office My experience in the Cork College of Commerce was welcoming and professional. I received excellent tuition and there was a very good support structure. I developed a good exam technique and acquired practical skills which are essential for the modern office. Attending classes regularly is the key getting on top of work as it is allocated allows a student to stay on top of the work load. A good work ethic gives the confidence to move forward. I found the staff to be encouraging supportive motivating and caring. My colleagues were also helpful and supportive throughout the course. I am currently employed by the HSE and am happy and confident in my work place. Everything I learned in Essential IT for the Office is relevant for my job on a day-to-day basis. 14 Learn participate succeed Beauty Therapy QQI Level 5 Adv Cert in Business Beauty Specialist Beauty Sales Consultant Beauty Therapy 2 year Diploma Make up Artistry Nail Technician Personal Trainer with Sports Massage Holistic and Physical Therapies BEAUTY HOLISTIC FITNESS & PHYSICAL THERAPIES 16 16 17 17 18 18 19 19 15 Learn participate succeed Beauty Therapy QQI Level 5 BEAUTY HOLISTICS FITNESS AND PHYSICAL THERAPIES Advanced Certifcate in Business Beauty Specialist A Level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate for those who wish to hone their skills and broaden their areas of expertise. Having already studied ten years previously in Fine Art and travelled for years it was a bit scary going back as a mature student. I had never really done any make up before and I found myself enjoying the course immediately. It became very obvious to me straight away that I had made the right decision in doing this course. I learned many new skills and techniques to go straight into working in the industry afterwards. As part of my work experience I was the make up artist for two short films being made by another college. This was a wonderful opportunity for me to learn about the production of films and what its like to be on set as a make up artist. Since the course I am working as a freelance artist doing weddings photo shoots and theatre work. I would highly recommend this course to anyone thinking of becoming a make up artist. Debbie Collins I started in CCOC in 2013 unsure terrified and excited wondering what the next 2 years would bring. The day I started all the terrifying thoughts had gone within an hour it was so welcoming and friendly. I knew from day 1 that health and well being was for me. Some days were harder than others and at times I felt like giving up but with the amazing support of my teachers and class mates I kept on going. What we learned in year 1 was mind boggling to say the least but it was fantastic and we were getting more and more knowledgeable by the day now I was learning about anatomy and physiology and wow it was a lot to take in. I kept on going and got through year 1 with flying colours looking forward then to year 2. Year 2 was 1 of the hardest years I had ever done but as time went on I realised I could do this and again with the support of my amazing classmates and of course the teachers I completed it and passed the second year. I m so thrilled I decided to go to CCOC it really has changed my life I ve met life long friends. In November 2015 I opened up my own holistic room in the main street of Midleton called Serendipity Holistic Haven and I m loving this new exciting adventure that hopefully will continue to go on for years to come. If you re reading this unsure of what to do go for it make the right decision you won t be sorry and will truly enjoy the experience. It is a great college where you get a lot of support and help from your tutors. It gave me the confidence to pursue higher education which I am currently studying a degree in Marketing and Multimedia at the University of Roehampton. Don Broderick I am a 26 year old qualified accountant working in Quintas Partners in Cork City I have this week taken a senior accountant role within this firm which will give me the platform to progress in my career and achieve my goals I set in 2007 when I started my journey in Cork College of Commerce. In 2007 I started the accounting technician course in Cork college of Commerce. I found the lectures on this course to be excellent with your own hard work at studying combined with the lectures notes and dedication you would feel confident that all aspects of the exam were covered come the exams. I also played soccer with the college from 2007 to 2011. This decision to play sports with the college turned out to be one of my best decisions in my life. It gave me the well needed break from studying which all students need and I also meet some great friends which made my college years great. I was lucky enough to captain the college soccer team for three years and winning a cup in 2010 was for me the highlight it was a great achievement for all the college. In 2011 I finished my exams in Cork College of Commerce. I took a trainee accountant training contact with Quintas partners for three years after I qualified I was offered a senior position as an accountant. I am now working hard to achieve my new goal to become a director and moving up the senior ranks within my employment. Chris Howard I started my Further Education with College of Commerce doing my FETAC Level 5 Childcare as it was known back then. The dedication of the teachers and material covered with College of Commerce spurred me on to do my Level 8 Honours degree at Cork Institute of Technology. Now today I am back where I started here at the college doing teaching practice for my Higher Diploma in Further Education. This could not have been achieved without College of Commerce for without it things would have worked out very differently for me. I cannot praise the college highly enough for starting me on my educational journey. Deirdre Sheehan Applied Psychology and Social Studies 2014 -2015 After much consideration my journey as a mature student began with making the momentous decision to return to full-time education after over thirty years. My choice of course was Applied Psychology and Social Studies at the Cork College of Commerce.Throughout the year the academic moral support and encouragement I received was exceptional from C.C.O.C and fellow students. I must admit it took commitment and hard work but the rewards of my personal and academic achievements were full-filling and set a great foundation for progression to third level education.. I believe that attending C.C.O.C has given me the courage and skills to achieve what I would have deemed impossible. I am currently attending Cork Institute of Technology studying a degree course in Applied Social Studies Craig O Leary Having received my Leaving Certificate points I realised that I hadn t gotten enough to study Chinese in UCC. I then looked for another route to go down as staying in education was my priority. I soon applied for a Level 5 QQI Business Certificate in Cork College of Commerce as it had the option to study Chinese as part of the year as well as the opportunity to progress to a course in UCC which included the course I had originally intended to do. The facilities in the college are fantastic and the teachers are second to none helping me and my classmates achieve the best possible grades we could. I also received the amazing opportunity to go and study in Shanghai University for two weeks as part of UCC s Confucius Institute programme. I now have my Level 5 Business certificate and am studying Chinese and French as part of Arts International in UCC and have College of Commerce to thank for it. Dylan Lee I studied Language and European studies at the Cork College of Commerce from 2014-2015 and it was the best choice I ever made. I am now studying in UCC and I definitely wouldn t have got here without this amazing course. The course is rich in both theory and practice and all tutors go above and beyond to make sure students get the most out of the year. I am currently studying for my degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also working in Crisis Pregnancy Support and using my knowledge and skills learned through the course to deliver an education programme to young people. Sean Gaine I really enjoyed my time studying at Cork College of Commerce. The small class sizes and approachable teachers meant that I had great support over the two years. In second year I had one day a week work experience and I was lucky enough to get a full time job from it. I started in June with CHK Partnership Accountants and am currently studying my CPA accountancy exams at night. Thank you Cork College of Commerce Mair ad Murphy RLC 2014 2015 The minute I opened my Leaving Cert results last year I knew I had no option but to repeat. Of course at first I was very hesitant but now I couldn t think of a better place to do it than at the Cork College of Commerce. From day one I knew that the teachers were very exam focused and they work hard to help you maximise your points and the excellent support I received from the Study Advisor and Guidance Councillors really helped me to reach my full potential. Their range of study facilities also benefitted me in the long run throughout the year and gave me a whole new approach to study. It was hard to see my old friends move on to college without me but I have made so many new friends whom I hope to keep for a very long time as we continue our journey into college. I would like to thank everyone at the CCOC for giving me both a beneficial and pleasant year here and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to repeat their Leaving Certificate. Teresa Lenane Graduate of University of Wales Trinity Saint David Swansea. CCOC provided me with the encouraging supportive & motivating environment I needed to excel in my studies & progress to UWSTD where I completed my Marketing degree with just one further year study there. The high marks I received in my degree was testament to the three years I spent in CCOC being constantly challenged & supported by brilliant teachers as is my job as a Marketing Executive. The personal approach was one of my best aspects everyone s needs were catered for individually and there was no one size fits all attitude. Anne Marie O Connor Leaving Cert 2014 2015 Repeating the Leaving Cert was one of the toughest decisions I made it was so difficult especially with most of my secondary school friends all heading to college but I soon made new friends on the same boat and they along with all my teachers and director encouraged me throughout the year to keep going and made repeating my best decision yet. Repeating has given me that second chance to achieve my ambition and to study dentistry. It was tough to keep studying to achieve the points I needed but the excellent facilities and help from teachers and my director made it significantly easier. I would highly recommend repeating the leaving cert in the Cork College of Commerce to anyone in order to achieve that goal they ve always wanted. It really is worthwhile. It s better to sacrifice that one extra year then to sacrifice the rest of your life doing some job you don t enjoy. Shaneen Collins Professional Cookery Students 2014 2015 This year gives you and introduction on what it s like to become a chef the basic knowledge that you will need to learn that will then help you top go on a study this career in more detail. This course doesn t teach you just the practical side of being a chef it also has the knowledge that you will need to know on the science behind the food. It also helps you to learn both sides of a restaurant from running a commercial sized kitchen once a week and a restaurant another day of the week. When working in the kitchen working in different sections each week has helped me decided on the type of chef that I would like to be wither is a pastry head chef sous chef or a commis chef. Then also getting to go out once a week to a proper kitchen and learning the skills that can only be learned by having your own experience. For me this course has broadened my knowledge of different cuisines from studying food and pastry s from other countries. This course has helped me develop my skills so that I will be able to develop them further in the future. It has made me more comfortable and confident in decisions regarding my choices when cooking that I probably wouldn t have developed as much if I didn t do this course. The course is challenging however with the dedicated teachers fantastic support and excellent facilities offered it is easy to excel. Looking back I can t believe how quickly the time has gone. Though these experiences and many more like them have brought the class together and made friendships that will hopefully will last forever. I have learned so much over the year and have learned skills that I can use for the rest of my life. Jovana Jovanovc Hospitality Studies Students 2014 2015 This year has been an amazing stepping stone in my life with great help from teachers and class mates it s been an eventful course. The course has thought us to work together as a team and also to be able to work alone. There are so many facilities to take advantage of in this course. Fridays were the best days in our course as one half of the class would cook a meal and it would be like having lunch with family because most of us got so close over time. From being taught how to cook wait on people set up tables and being brought out to visit hotels for experience. We learned so much from this course that helps us with everyday life. This year went too fast and I would have loved if the course was extended to Two years instead of only being One year. I must say that I am glad to have been a part of this course and that it was the best experience to have been a part of in this college. Declan O Shea Professional Cookery Students 2014 2015 The Professional Cookery course is a great way to learn all of the fundamentals required for working in a professional kitchen.
