Waiheke Island s main roads are all sealed (with the exception of the Loop Road at the eastern end of the island) however there is a general lack of footpaths (sidewalks). Take care driving along narrow roads as people dogs and horses also use these Great Barrier Island has more unsealed roads and no sidewalks. The main things to remember on both islands are drive with care plan your journey and keep to the left hand side of the road. The locals are very friendly so don t be afraid to stop and ask for directions if you re lost.
